At CHARLES & KEITH Group, we are committed to fostering environmental responsibility through actions to support progress for a better world and sustainable environment.  In conjunction with World Clean-up Day, we played a part in our eco-conscious journey through a Coffee Scrub Workshop and Coastal Clean-up with social enterprise Green Nudge.

During the Coffee Scrub Workshop, our colleagues enjoyed a hands-on experience learning more about coffee, creating their DIY body scrub and reflecting on ways they can build and sustain better habits to protect our environment. By the end of the workshop, we successfully upcycled 3kg of coffee grounds – collected and dried from our coffee cart event held a week before – into our very own customised body scrub.

Packing up after the insightful workshop, 31 of us geared up to get our hands dirty for a coastal clean-up at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal Beach.

Arriving at the location, we learned that the area was a private beach – only opened to selected volunteer groups to collect the waste swept up on the shore. Motivated and eager to make a difference, our team quickly collected their tools and began picking up unnatural items polluting the beach.

The low tide presented a unique opportunity for us to reach an area of the beach that was heavily polluted with plastic bottles and styrofoam.

After over an hour of collecting litter, our team gathered back to tie up the bags, while some dedicated colleagues continued to pick up litter on their walk back.

Witnessing the extent of trash washed up onto our shores was a clear reminder on the importance of being responsible consumers, minimising the use of disposables, recycling often, and binning our litter correctly. We went on to share our learning points over a short reflection session before carrying the bags of trash out of the beach to weigh our fruits of labour.

Concluding our fulfilling accomplishment of collecting 197kg of trash, we celebrated with chilled drinks and beer to wrap up the amazing clean-up!

This experience not only shined the spotlight on one of our core value – WE DRIVE PURPOSE – reinforcing the importance of doing our part for the planet, but also created meaningful memories and fostered stronger relationships with one another.
